Using Johan Rockström’s “planetary boundaries” as a methodology, this paper attempts to connect with SF ecological novels that show a new zeitgeist as speculative realism. The problem of biological diversity destruction at the planetary boundaries as an engine that causes the Earth to enter a “bad” Anthropocene. SF ecological novels criticize anthropocentrism through biological extinction and allow us to imagine alternatives to the crisis facing all living organisms. Bum Yu-jin’s “Child of Choice”, included in the mass extinction anthology, shows the most direct human influence among the various factors of bio-extinction. It depicts a dolphin’s narrative as an object of indiscriminate human exploitation and hunting. The death of Ghana, a dolphin child with the ability to talk to animals, along with the reproducible fact that river dolphins are extinct, seems to be a harbinger of a huge mass extinction to come to mankind. Kim Jeong Hye-jin’s “Ball and Chain of Bees” tells the story of honeybees that are plagued by indiscriminate abuse of pesticides. An update error in the connector reverses the consciousness of humans and bees. Through the appearance of humans returning to the forest of death and forming a honeybee ball, the ecological net of humans and nature is reenacted. The strong message of the two novels as ecological literature is the fact that human violence and exploitation of nature is primarily revealed as the extinction of animals, but it must be returned to humans. SF ecological novels reveal destroyed nature and ecological reality by reproducibly embodying the ecological reality of the crisis, and play a role in predicting the future of humanity as well as ecosystems based on an integrated worldview.
